As a diverse learning community, we hold ourselves accountable to prepare all students for college, career, and citizenship by providing a nurturing environment where our scholars are held to high standards for success.

Learning Together (Academic Programs)

Reading – Balanced literacy approach including:

 

  • Core comprehension lessons

  • Independent reading to practice skills

  • Daily guided reading/intervention groups based on student reading levels

  • Writing – Focus on nonfiction
  • Math:
    • New core Math in Focus (Singapore Math) program (K-5)
    • Core Connected Math Project (CMP) program (6)
    • Singapore bar model drawing problem solving approach
    • Individualized math practice in the computer lab twice a week:
      • STMath (K-5)
      • SIMath (6)
      • Xtramath (1-6) for fact practice
      • Math interventions twice a week based on student need 
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program
    • 3 classrooms (1 PreK-K, 1 Primary, 1 Intermediate)
    • Instruction in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • General education opportunities for students with 3 full-time interpreters on staff
  • Resource Room – Additional intervention opportunities in reading, writing, and math for students in need

Working Together (Positive Behavior)

 

  • NOBLE's (Noteworthy Outstanding Bow Lake Effort) – Positive tickets recognizing individual and class behaviors
  • NOBLE Assemblies – Monthly assemblies where we perform and celebrate successes from the previous month
  • 7 Habits of Happy Kids – Students from each class recognized for positive behaviors and award lunch with the principal
  • 3-tiered behavior system to support all students with making positive choices
  • Check, Connect and Expect and Room of Alternative Recess (ROAR) interventions to support at-risk students

Growing Together (Partnerships) – Bow Lake maintains strong partnerships with the following organizations

  • School-based Partnerships: Bow Lake PTA, Bow Lake Latino Parent Group, Community Schools
  • Community Partnerships: The Doubletree Seattle Airport Hotel, Microsoft, Angle Lake Neighborhood Church, SeaTac Rotary

On the Pathway to Success (Results)

  • 87% of 6th graders at standard in math computation (AIMSWeb)
  • 95% of students with 0-1 office discipline referrals
  • Exemplary PBIS School for three years
